Thank you for your welcome. Iam looking for circa 1913/4. Specifically for Christopher Edward Masters. We are certain he was on a training ship but there is a gap between then and 1924 which we cannot account for.

Assuming it is the children's home ship then this http://www.childrenshomes.org.uk/TSCornwall/  suggests that records of those who were sent there no longer exist.  I found one document at the National Archives from 1916/17, probably no use!  http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C4151285

However, was he born 1898 in Kent with a sister Louisa Lenny in Queens Road Bayswater?  There are Merchant seaman records from 1921 and 1923 and then 1924-29 (re-enlisting in 1924) for a man of that name.

You are absolutely correct. However it is the earlier period between 1914-1923 that intrigues us.
Anyway, thank you so much for your efforts. We must soldier on.

It won't really help but there is a Great War medal card for a Christopher E Masters (the only occurrence of that name and initial I have found in any service record) in the Royal Engineers then Labour Corps.  As they don't have personal information it can only be speculated that it is your man.

Fellow Rootschatter Seaweed is an absolute whiz at matters maritime.  Might be worth a PM with the details of the earliest Merchant Seaman record you have asking if he could advise whether even earlier details can be found anywhere.

Under the tab "My Messages" underneath the nice Rootschat picture you'll see "send a message".  That brings up a mail area.  His title is simply seaweed (no capitals).  Then just use as normal email.  To save explaining it all, you could ask him to look at your thread (Training Ship Cornwall) on the Beginners board and ask if he can help with pointers towards records for your man prior to the seaman's record you have already found.

You are being a terrific help. In my hurry to find more information I missed part of the detail in your last but one message concerning his re-engagement in 1924. that needs looking into.
Thank you for your tutorial on contacting other people on this site.I will do this at the earliest opportunity.
