« on: Wednesday 29 March 17 12:54 BST (UK) »
Hello. Can anyone help me locate an address that appears on a 1783 death reference? The address is given as Bellman in the parish of Mullingar Westmeath (walshestown-Gaynstown)Where was this location and does it still exist?

Doesn't help with geographical location but there is a list of townlands in Mullingar here:
https://www.townlands.ie/westmeath/mullingar/

I do have a map somewhere [my grandmother was born in Hanstown, Mullingar so am interested in the area] so will look for it, may show Bellman.

Hmmm, found my map (it's in 'Exploring Family Origins in Mullingar' by Noel Farrell) and can only find a Bellview which is ENE of Mullingar surrounded by Springfield or Spittlefield on the N, Petitswood on the E & S so nowhere near Walshestown; can't see Gaynstown on this map either but can see Slanestown immediately W of Walshestown.

I think there are old OS maps on the Ireland Archives site, will try to find web address.

ADDED: http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V2,641635,753885,8,10

Are you sure the reference is BELLMAN? Have you seen the original document or just a transcription? Could it be mis-interpreted? If you can post the snippet it may be possible to read it differently.

ADDED2: OK so found a Gainestown now, far SE of Mullingar town, also nowhere near Walshestown.

Could it be Bellmount? Otherwise known as Curristown or Bellmount.

it's pretty easy once you know  how!! There is some help here:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=130922.0 reply #2.
When you post a reply there is an option for 'Attachment' & you can pick the image up by browsing for its location on your laptop/device, making sure it is not too large.

Normally it is not allowed to post a whole certificate but from the age of your document it is NOT a certificate!!

If it is an entry in parish records which are online - say from http://registers.nli.ie/ - you can post a link to the page or post a screenshot of the entry. It always helps to have some of the other handwriting around it for comparison.

ADDED: What's the name, date & parish of death?

This LINK to the OSI maps at the 1837 level shows Bellmount House and to its NW is Walshestown Upper and to its SE Gainestown

You may need to search again - I looked for Bellmount, Co. Westmeath and choose Bellmount House
Then choose Historic Map 6 Inch Colour (1837-1842) from the drop down box under Base Information and Mapping on the left in the box marked Data Catalogue
