the Nicholas Middleton who married Catherine Bradly in Woolwich 19 Dec 1843 gave his father's details as Nicholas Middleton, shipwright. The father of your Nicholas is John, isn't he?
The parish entry for the 1837 marriage shows that Nicholas to be of the Royal Marines.

So something is awry.

 :-\

We have seen and noted this fact.  We have searched for a Nicholas Middleton, born c 1814, Torquay, mother Sarah Earle, father Nicholas but cannot find one.

We have found

Nicholas Wadlin Middleton born 1813 December 29, Tormoham, Torquay, Devon, England
Baptised,  30 Jan 1814, Cockington, Torquay, Newton Abbot, Devon
Parents, John and Sarah Middleton.

A John Middleton, marries a Sarah Earle, 1813 August 5, Cockington, Torquay, Newton Abbot,
Devon.

Nicholas cites his Mother as Sarah Earle, to receive his money on his RN Alllotment papers.

This changes to his wife, ELIZA, in 1843.

the wife called Eliza must be a mistake as the date of marriage given is that of his marriage to Catherine Bradly.

Have you tried contacting the opc for Tormoham & Cockington to see if there is any trace of Sarah, wife of John Middleton? It seems unlikely that he would remarry as a widower if his wife was still alive.
His contact details are on the Genuki page for the parish and on DustyDocs.

The John Earle in Devonport was baptised in East Allington 7 Oct 1781- birth place as given on 1851 census, son of John & Frances. He married Sarah Cowles 25 Dec 1804 in East Allington.

We have found a possible Baptism, for Catherine Bradl(E)y ( father named as John Richard on marr record )
29 Nov 1818
Baptism Place:
Strood Near Rochester,Kent,England
John Bradly
Sarah

Hi this Catherine looks to have had a brother John Richard Bradley baptism 20th December 1807 Strood, Father John Mother Sarah, oddly it appears this Catherine marries a Richard Middleton as on 1851 census shows Catherine Middleton 34 Sister b Strood, Richard Middleton 40 Brother in Law b Frindsbury with a John R Bradley 43, wife Susannah, and a widowed mother Sarah Bradley 73.

Yes, we did find this family and indeed, ODDLY she married a Richard Middleton.

At present, it's the only Baptism we have found.

In 1851, Catherine, was the mother of Harriet and Richard , searches for her and the 2 children, aren't showing results for us.

Thank you.
I will contact him.

Thank you also, for the Marriage details for John and Sarah Earle.

I have only gone as far as trying to find baptisms for the John and Elizabeth, with them in 1841

I have found a possibility,

John Earl, 1816, Stoke Dam., residence Dock, son of John and Sarah

A thought has crossed our minds, that these Earls, could be Nicholas' Uncle and Aunt.

Another being, WADLIN, Nicholas is baptised Nicholas Wadlin Middleton. ( Is Wadlin a surname somewhere along the line .... )
Also his parents, marry in Aug 1813 and he is born Dec. 1813,  (was it posssibly an arranged marriage )

When you watch WDYTYA, it appears so simple to find people ..... lol

the Elizabeth from the 1841 was baptised in Bigbury 28 Dec 1806 as Elizabeth Cowles Middleton daughter of John & Ann? - the question mark is from the transcription, possibly the register is unclear. Also in the same parish, there are baptisms to John & Sarah Middleton for Stephen 11 Dec 1808 & Philip 25 March 1810. I haven't spotted Stephen as yet, not all Devon registers are online, but there's a possible burial for Philip aged 10 in Stoke Damerel.

I wondered about Sarah Earle being his aunt rather than his mother so someone got the allotment.
There's another allotment record from 1837 that shows his wife Elizabeth receiving, although the date given is 21 Feb 1837, place of marriage is the same though as the one to Sarah Brag. Address given is 12 East Emma Place, Stonehouse - date of allotment 1 Sep 1837.

WDYTYA uses researchers who have already found the info ahead of the celebs.

There's another allotment record from 1837....

Where did you find thid please ?

We cannot find anything on Anc.  and very little on FindMyPast.

I have e mailed the OPC.

It's confusing and looking more like there's more than one Nicholas.
( I thought some of my family were difficult, but  these of my OH's are horrendous ). ::)

it's on FindMyPast with the others.

Have you contacted the National Archives to get copies of his attestation papers?

http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C10054589

There's only one lot of attestation papers, so looks to be only one Nicholas Middleton, even if he had a bad memory for names of wife and father.
