By counting up the births I found on CFHS, and subsequently additional names on the Census it adds up to possibly fifteen children being born to Wm & Mary.

In view of Selina's information there were two William Goodwin/Mary marriages, on both William was a bachelor.  We know that Mary Claypole was still having children in the late 1830's so did not die and William remarry.

I wonder how many of the births you have found relate to your William & Mary  :-\

Oh dear....

So TWO William Goodwin's, both bachelors in the same town, both marrying Mary's, within a couple of years of each other.  Hadn't allowed for that outcome!

I can only go by the Censuses then, to determine 'some' of the offspring of Mary Claypole and Wm Goodwin.  (Just two children were born post-1837 to Mary Claypole).  But armed with those two, I can match them to the 1841 Census and be sure that the William Goodwin/Mary  I am following are one and the same.  I just won't be able to match any pre-deceased children, at all.

Thanks again for helping.

Yes, John, of course you are right.   :)

(It is 'Inhams'.  There's a road in Whittlesey now called Inhams Road).

I have a number of birth certs of children from second marriages from both my maternal and paternal side.  They date from 1888-1901 and in every case they only show the mothers actual maiden name - never her previous married name

I did say usually. It depends on the information given by the informant.
My grandfather's birth certificate (1893) gives both his mother's maiden name and her former married name.

I can see they are also spelling it with one "n". Some Claypoles there!
Carole, if you register with the Family Search website
https://familysearch.org/register/1

And go to the catalogue
https://familysearch.org/catalog/search

In the "place" box, start typing Whittesey, and they will give you
England, Cambridgeshire, Whittlesey
Click search, and the results include
England, Cambridgeshire, Whittlesey - Church records ( 12 )

From that you can select
Bishop's transcripts for St. Andrew's Church, Whittlesey, 1602-1856
or
Bishop's transcripts for St. Mary's Church, Whittlesey, 1599-1856

But there is a big gap in them! They resume in 1813, and are probably complete after that.
From 1837, marriages are still included in these BT's, and are in the new format, with fathers names. Which is a bonus.

So you can see all this for free, but you must be registered, and logged in.
This link would take you to both of the 1818 baptisms at St Mary

John - thanks for that!

The link is much appreciated - although I subscribe to the BNA, Find My Past and Ancestry, I'm disappointed, especially with Ancestry at the lack of Whittlesey records on there.

Hi
I think there is a lack of Whittlesey records anywhere!
A likely reason would be if the LDS have never filmed the parish registers.

But we have Cambridgeshire BT's available, including Whittlesey
