As has been mentioned several times about familysearch trees, members construct them for the purpose of baptising 'their' dead but seem happy to include anyone who they consider may be family.

I looked at the archdeacons registers for a couple of those entries given by solidrock and they were not there, it may be that the information had not been transferred from parish register to archdeacons transcripts or maybe just that it never happened.  Personally I only use other peoples trees as a guide and only enter information on my tree where I have substantiated it myself from original records.

There are pages missing from either the original registers or the Bishop's Archdeacon's Transcripts for Gayton.

This lot copied 27 April 1793:

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939X-DTSB

The next page starts at 1794 and covers entries from 25 March 1794 so that is a whole year missing.

The SANCTUARY/BROWN marriage is indexed by both Phillimore and Boyd so it must exist somewhere.

Family search has it as Norwich

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NF9K-BH4

I had looked on Gayton archdeacons transcript for it and could not see it there   :-\

Familysearch film takes you to
https://familysearch.org/search/catalog/255340?availability=Family%20History%20Library

Bishop's transcripts for the Archdeaconry of Norwich, 1685-1925

so probably not Norwich itself

It appears to me that Sarah Ann married Richard AUSTIN

1851 they are in Gedney, Lincs
Richard Austin, 35
Sarah Ann Austin, 33, born Gayton, Norfolk

By 1881 she is back in Norfolk and Widowed, born c 1822 Gayton.
They appear to have had no Children.

Burial;
MARY Sanctuary
age: 29
birth: 1792
burial: 14 June 1821, Gayton, Norfolk

Some entries from the Gayton registers that Derek may already have:

1780 Burial - Christopher SANCTUARY
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939X-DTJM

1786 Marriage - Sarah SANCTUARY and John JEWELL
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939X-DTWV

1788 Marriage - Jane SANCTUARY and John HART
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939X-DT4H

1805 Baptism - Elizabeth, illegitimate daughter of Sarah GALLOWAY
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939X-DTH1

1809 Burial - Elizabeth GALLOWAY, infant
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939X-DTWH

1809 Marriage - Elizabeth GALLOWAY and John DAWS
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939X-DTWB
(John DAWS was the witness at the wedding of Robert SANCTUARY and Mary GALLOWAY)

1811 Marriage - Sarah GALLOWAY and William KENDALL
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939X-DT4J

I would be reasonably confident that this baptism in 1798 is a son of John and Frances SANCTUARY, the name recorded as SAINTY?  I can't see any other entries for this couple.
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939X-DT3C

I only had a quick skim through so there may be more, and some of the pages are almost illegible.

Many thanks to Dundee, Debra, Rosie99,Trish1120 & Solidrock for your continued assistance to me.

Dundee - thanks for the list you posted.  I have found all of them & probably every other Sanctuary in Norfolk - I just cannot find a record that proves Robert was the son of John & Francis!!  I have also checked out Saintuary & Sainty - both of whom I believe to be the same Sanctuary family.  However I haven't found your 1798 record under Sainty - can you tell me where you found it please?  I believe you have found the problem that prevents me finding a baptism for Robert with the missing  records for Gayton. If John & Francis married in 1793 it is probable their first born child was born in that year or 1794 given the speed with which pregnancy either pre-dated the marriage in those days or followed swiftly after.

Trish1120 - I'm not sure which Sarah Ann you are referring to - could you just let me know who her parents are?  My branch of the Sanctuarys did indeed move to Gedney, Lincs before moving on to Guisborough, Yorks then finally York itself.

Rosie99 - westacre is listed as a parish under Norwich but Gayton is not - I'm not sure to whom it belongs at the moment.

Many thanks to you all,

Derek

It appears to me that Sarah Ann married Richard AUSTIN

1851 they are in Gedney, Lincs
Richard Austin, 35
Sarah Ann Austin, 33, born Gayton, Norfolk

Robert's (possible) sister Sarah married Thomas GARRETT/GARROD in 1836.  In 1841 father John is with them, in 1851 brother John is with them....

1841
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M795-Q3Q

1851
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:SGD2-WYP

Sarah's baptism in 1815 shows her father John as a Thatcher and the baptisms of Robert's children show him as a Shoemaker.

It looks like Robert was in debtor's prison in 1827:

Robert SANCTUARY, formerly of Gayton, and late of Fouldon, Norfolk, Thatcher and Boot and Shoe-Maker.

According to the Norfolk record office they have the original parish registers for Gayton and that is what you need - not transcripts, copies, or indexes.

http://www.archives.norfolk.gov.uk/view/NCC154771

There is no guarantee that they will be complete either, but hopefully they are.
