Sponsoring of widows & their families in the 1950s?
« on: Thursday 28 July 05 16:03 BST (UK) »
Out of curiosity, has anybody heard of family/child sponsoring in the late 1950s?

An aunt was widowed with young children in the late 1950s and, according to her sister, the family were "sponsered" by a lady up North (evidently no relation and they lived in the South) who would send regular amounts of money to contribute to the families upkeep.
