Letitia Bowen
« on: Sunday 09 April 17 13:55 BST (UK) »
Hello.  Looking for date and place of death for Letitia.  She was born in 1881 in Pembrokeshire and her father was George.  She was a nurse during ww1 and served with the Scottish Women's Hospitals in France in 1915. Looks like a  large family with many of them migrating to Canada.  Would really appreciate any help.

Alan

Did she marry?  If so - what was her married name as any death will be under that surname

Freebmd has a lot of Letitia Bowen marriages so not an uncommon name

There is an article in The Glamorgan Gazette 3rd November 1916 regarding the death of Sergt T E Evans of The Canadian Contingent who died of pneumonia at Shorncliffe. His widow Nurse Letitia Bowen Evans daughter of George Bowen, Oxford Street, Pontycymmer. Nurse Bowen Evans has been to the front in France attending wounded soldiers and was married four months ago.

That's an equally good find JJ.
So it appears Tom signed up at Shorncliffe and then died there too, how very sad and only just married too.
Shorncliffe was used as a staging post for troops destined for the Western Front during WW1 and in April 1915 a Canadian Training Division was formed there. Perhaps this was where Tom & Letitia met?
