Essenhoogh/Essenhigh
« on: Sunday 09 April 17 16:23 BST (UK) »
I am descended from Hendrik van Essenhoogh, who was born in the Netherlands in 1723.  He came to England, date unknown, and married Mary Blogg in 1747 in Canterbury, Kent, where he remained for the rest of his life.  His surname was eventually anglicised to Essenhigh, and all people called Essenhigh in the world are descended from him.   Has anyone any information on him, particularly when/how he entered England some time in the 1700s?  Any info would be welcome.

Welcome to rootschat, solane.

Do you belong to Ancestry, as the surname is in many trees on there.

Also, have you looked in 'Surname Interests' in 'Your Tools', below, to see if anyone on here is researching that surname?

Hi Chempat,

Thank you for your tips.  I have tried 'Surname Interests' and up to now haven't been successful.  Yes, I am on Ancestry, and am familiar with the Essenhigh names mentioned.  I am mainly keen to find out more about Hendrik van Essenhoogh, who started the Essenhigh clan by settling in the UK in the first place.

Anyway, thanks for your help.
