Representatives' Association, passed away suddenly at his residence, Down-street, Redcliffe, early on Sunday morning. Mr. MacNaughton had been in poor health for the past few months. Deceased spent Saturday afternoon on the Redcliffe bowling green. At the last annual meeting he was made a life member of the club, on his retirement from the position of provldore, in recognition of his services. He had resided permanently in Redcliffe for 12 1/2years.
The deceased was 68 years of age, having been bom in Sterling (Scotland) in 1861. He arrived In Australia In 1884 on the sailing ship Shannon. For several years Mr. MacNaughton carried on business as a builder and contractor in Brisbane. In 1891 he entered the service of the A.M.P. Society, and retained his connection to the day of his death.
He was very well known throughout Western Queensland. In connection with the A.M.P. war loan scheme Mr. MacNaughton had the honour of establishing an all-Australian record for the amount of money obtained. In his young days Mr. MacNaughton was prominently associated with association football, and played the game both in Queensland and in Scotland. The funeral, which was largely attended, took place on Monday afternoon to the Redcliffe Cemetery, the Rev. H. J. Tauáevin, Congregational minister, officiated. Mr. C. C. Dixon represented the Queensland manager of the A.M.P. (Mr. W. C. Fisher). Among those present were Alderman S. G. Balley (Mayor) and representatives of the Redcliffe Bowline Club and other bodies with which Mr. MacNaughton was connected.
Mr MacNaughton married Miss Jessie Jardine (of Glasgow), who survives him. Mr. John MacNaughton (Charleville), is the only living son. Another son William MacNaughton, died during the war.
