Ah my reply just crossed with both of yours. I don't know where he got the money from to buy the land. He was a pork butcher in Liverpool. He had lots of siblings so unlikely to be a parental inheritance either. He certainly had enough for his sons to be sent away to school and become an architect and an engineer and Hannah appears to have lived comfortably after his death.

I've checked Burial Registers for Lezayre, Bride, Jurby, Maughold and Braddan parishes.
No sign of Joseph?!

Thank you. It does seem odd. Perhaps he was buried in Liverpool. I'll look there next when I have a chance.

Thank you for this. I'll make a note of it in case she turns up in the future.

is Joseph a descendant of (or related to) Thomas + Esther Bundred/Burndred -
brief note on Thomas (Bundred) who came to IoM each yearfrom Potteries  as a Prim Methodist missionary
(his diary might be Methodist archives held by Manx Museum)-
Esther Burndred buried Andreas 18630723 from Cronk-beck aged 82
a Thomas Burndred age 69 same address buried Andreas 18620208
There are wills
Thomas bought land in Andreas by deed NSS May 1847 16
any thing with a Manx Connection

Frances,

Thank you for this. I don't know of them and I haven't found a Staffordshire connection yet. I'll have a look at them and see if they tie up anywhere. The grandmother whose family this is though, was a Methodist.
