« on: Monday 10 April 17 21:27 BST (UK) »
Searching for information on the lives of two BURGESS brothers born in Winchester Hampshire area.  John born about 1897, and Thomas about 1896 both came to Canada with the Catholic Emigration Association in 1911 on the Lake Manitoba for placement through St Georges, in Ottawa.  Any information would be greatfuly appreciated.  Thank you in advance for any assistance

Is it their lives in Canada or the early part of their life in England you are interested in?  Or both!

Birth registrations Winchester 1896/1897 indicate their mothers maiden name was Arnold.
Can look up more in England if that's what you need  :)

Hello and a warm welcome to RootsChat  :).

It looks like John may have served with the Canadian Army (CEF) in WW1. This link is for his Attestation Papers. There is a link therein (halfway down) to his entire military file. It is VERY VERY slow to download.

Looks like the boys were in Quebec in the same area at this time.

Added: could you give us the full names of their parents?
British Home Children are very special.

We search for information but it is up to the thread owner to verify that it is correct.

Hi, and Welcome from me too. :)

There is a marriage in Messines, Quebec in 1934 for Thomas Burgess and Rose Lacource, widow
of Moise Charbonneau. Thomas' parents are Thomas and Mary Arnold, England.

Messines isn't far from Fieldville mentioned in brother John's military records.

Mr. & Mrs. Thomas Burgess (occupation labourer) appear in Canada's Voters Lists in Messines 1945/49/53/57/58 and 1963. In 1957 there is a mention of a daughter C*, occupation servant.

Messines Cemetery, Outaouais, Gatineau
Burgess Thomas, b.1896 - d.1968
Burgess, C* (daughter) b.1935
No sign of wife Rose.

I wish to thank all who responded.

The parents William Burgess and Katie Arnold of these two boys Thomas and William also had two daughters who remained in England.  Beatrice born Dec 1893  in 1901census she is in Nazarath House and Alice born Dec 1899 in 1901 census she is with the Arnold family.  Katie died Dec 1899.

The boys were in Abby Hose in Romsey in 1911 census before coming to Canada.  Also St Joseph's school.

I am trying to find the Board of Guardian records if possible for these two boys.  And any information about their life in England.

I know the sons of John Burgess and they are aware of the daughter of their uncle Thomas.

I thank everyone who has welcomed me and offered information.  I would appreciate clues as where to look for more information in England.
