EWENS of Bridport ca 1802
« on: Tuesday 11 April 17 00:04 BST (UK) »
Would appreciate help in locating the birth/baptism of Ezra Walter EWENS born ca 1802 at Bridport.  On the marriage to his second wife in 1850 in London he states his father is William EWENS.

Thank you.

Hi
I don't know if this helps but there is a William Ewens in Bridport, but I can't see a baptism for him and his wife Esther Derby married 25.2.1794 for Ezra or Walter or both.
There are 4 children -William George 13.7.1794,John Bishop 21.1.1796,Edwin Orlando 24.3.1798 and Henry Evan Ewens 11.8.1802.

William is a cooper baptised 24.4.1766 s of william and Martha was buried 10.2.1802 and his wife Esther 1.4.1807.

Son John Bishop has a son Edwin Walter.

Thank you Trish and Ciderdrinker.  I think we may have our William and I really appreciate your help in locating those records for him.

I have just come across this post while looking for other information. You may know this already, but Ezra's son Frederick and his wife died on their way to Sydney on board the Golconda in 1858. On board was John Allison, a carpenter, who kept a daily log of the journey, and he and his wife nursed both Harriet and Frederick Ewens (he calls them Ewing). The log mentions the pair frequently and the fact that Harriet gave premature birth to a baby on the voyage. The infant also died. Frederick said e knew he was dying, but only wished he could see his Father one last time - which sadly he did not.

Thank you RWTaylor for that information.  I did have some about their deaths, but not about the diary kept by John ALLISON.  How kind he and his wife must have been.  I also did not know there was a premature baby born and died to Frederick and Harriet.  Their memorial headstone doesn't mention it, however there is damage to the headstone and some information cannot be read.
Thank you for sending this along.  It always makes me sad to think how their dreams and plans for a new life in Australia were cut short before they even arrived.
