Alice Juliana Kirby
« on: Thursday 13 April 17 14:41 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace Alice Juliana Kirby who after her husband John Waterfield died in 1830 was sent with her 3 children to Crowland via the Poor Laws. Her children were Mary Jane aged 4, Charles aged 2 and John Frederick who was 7 months old. Charles was my great grandfather and I can trace him from the 1851 census to London where he was training to be a tailor. Prior to that I cannot trace the family. Any help would be appreciated. I have the marriage record at St Margaret's Parish Church, Leicester but nothing after that, can't even trace birth records for the parents. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Liz, welcome to RootsChat! :)

The John WATERFIELD who died at Leicester in 1830 was aged 13

I see Alice married (and signed) as Julia KIRBY in 1825.
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

All I know is that the last child, John Frederick was baptised in 1830 and the record states - Father: John Waterfield deceased. Baptism was at St Margaret's where Julia was married. On Find my past it gives you the record that they were sent to Crowland.

Robert Kirby married Ann Kirby 11th May 1801 Somerby, Leicestershire.
Banns on 9th April 1801 have him from Kettleby with Howell and her from Somerby.
Hope this helps, having no luck with the 1841 census,

You have worked wonders, thank you so much, I hadn't got that information at all. Bless you, I can now hopefully find out more about Julia. How would I get to see any records for the Crowland Poor House?

Once again, thank you.

Liz

Siblings for Alice Julianna baptised Somerby

Rob(er)t    bpt 23rd May 1802
W(illia)m  bpt 22nd November 1807

Other possibles
Jane  bpt 6th November 1814
John  bpt 22nd August 1820

Big gap in dates so less likely. All but Robert give father’s occupation as millwright (no occ. On his)

Possibles for Ann Kirby and her siblings. (Interesting a Kirby marring a Kirby)

Alice      bpt 6th June 1774
Julianna bpt 6th June 1774 (twins?)
Charles  bpt 18th April 1777 (there is a burial 26th April 1777 probably him)
Ann       bpt 29th September 1779
All in Somerby to parents W(illia)m & Alice
All from FindMyPast
Sorry I can’t help with Crowland

The record will be the removal order, which is available from Lincolnshire Archives using form COPY 1 and quoting reference Crowland Parish 13/10/135
