Nancy Challoner marriage 1919 Wrexham
« on: Saturday 15 April 17 15:11 BST (UK) »
Hi, does anyone have access to Wrexham Parish records for a 1919 marriage - Nancy Challoner to William Herbert Jones.

Nancy died in childbirth in 1924 but keen to know her fathers name.

I believe William's father is Samuel Jones, hewer.

Any help appreciated.
Thanks

Can't see a birth for her so I can see why you need the marriage info!

Wonder if she had been married previous.  Did the child survive to cross check her maiden name on the birth?

She was 28 when she died in the Dec qtr 1924 so birthyear 1896

There is a Jones/Challoner birth in the same RD and qtr 1924 so mmn was Challoner

2 older children born 1919 and 1920 - mmn Challoner

Looked at this earlier, saw the age at death.  Thought maybe Agnes is Nancy..as Agnes can be an alternate/pet name for Nancy.

https://www.familytreeforum.com/showthread.php/48942-Which-name-would-Nancy-be-short-for

Maybe red herring, but cannot find a suitable birth for Nancy or in census. Firstborn child to couple is also named Robert, possible connection or coincidence?

1901 - Town & Hamlet, Holt, Wrexham, Denbighshire, Wales
Robert   Chaloner   Head   Married   Male   43   Labourer (Agricultural) Holt, Denbighshire
Ann   Chaloner   Wife   Married   Female   47      Tilston, Cheshire
Timothy   Chaloner   Son      Male   13   Holt, Denbighshire
Agnes   Chaloner   Daughter   Female 7   Holt, Denbighshire
Robert   Chaloner   Son      Male   5   Holt, Denbighshire
Joseph   Chaloner   Son      Male   1   Holt, Denbighshire
George   Chaloner   Father   Married   Male   69   Basket Maker Holt, Denbighshire

In Cheshire in last census as a servant.

Think you need to obtain her marriage cert, it is not online, unless you get a look up. Could be completely wrong but worth a go...

Age is out a little to age at death.

Thanks to all

I'm not sure if Nancy had been married before her marriage to William H Jones in 1919, it's possible.

I have the birth record in 1924 of the child born in the marriage, the child survived but Nancy died in childbirth, the birth certificate confirms mother deceased. I wasn't aware of the two other children born in 1919 and 1920, thank you for the information. I'm not sure what happened to both children,... another avenue to research, its possible both didn't survive. William re-married and having found him in the 1939 register there are no children with him other than with his new wife.

The person born in 1924 was informally adopted by his Aunt and her husband, he is with the family on the 1939 register.

I had no idea Nancy had alternative names, makes researching confusing but the record found by Cas(stallc) is a good lead, although, am thinking a marriage certificate may be the only option if there are no records online.

Thanks so much for looking and a Happy Easter!

Hi PP, Happy Easter to you also  :)

The 3 children born to this couple all have Mmn as Challoner, as she married as Challoner it is unlikely that she married previous.

Let us know details if you obtain the MC.

Hi

Happy Easter  :)

The North Wales BMD has the marriage taking place in St James, Rhosddu (part of Wrexham) but, unfortunately, the records don't seem to be online anywhere.  I've searched as many online sources that I know of.

Thanks Gadget,

Its frustrating as most of my ancestors seem to be married in St James, Rhosddu.

I think I will need a certificate - will post as soon as its received.

I found both the earlier children born in the marriage, (Robert & May) both died shortly after birth, Robert being the name of the first born child does lead me to the 1901 census posted by Cas (stallc)

Thanks

If you can wait until  Tuesday,I'll at least find out who Nancy's father was by looking up the marriage in the Hayes Marriage Index at the Research centre of Clwyd FHS.
