Troubles with 'Borders' Tree Searching
« on: Sunday 16 April 17 15:18 BST (UK) »
Hi guys, first post here...hope it's in the right place.

I've been into searching my ancestry and become obsessed for a couple of years now, however, as I'm from a border town of North Northumberland it's become a little difficult to find any more out after the years 1796 (male maternal side) and 1649 (male paternal side) apparently.
Maybe it's just the years as I guess it's harder the further back you go but the mix of English and Scottish record searching has been an issue for me.

I wondered if anyone has experienced the same, has any tips or anything else? I have used both free and paid resources online but have yet to visit a local archives with them being quite far out of the way.

I do have names, birth dates, birth places and marriages for both of my last found relatives if anyone can direct me to somewhere on this forum I could post that info to help find parents perhaps?

Sorry for the long ramble! Thanks in advance.
Danielle.

Hi Danielle,

Welcome to Rootschat.

You can put the information that you have on this board.  You may wish to split them up and carry on here with one name and create a new topic for the other name.

I am assuming that the maternal and paternal names are different?  Putting both names on the one topic may become somewhat muddling.  I personally would find it easier to separate the names but it is up to you.

Have you considered getting in touch with the local family history society that covers the area that you are interested in?  They can be very helpful.

Perhaps you could say what online resources you have already checked so that no-one repeats what you have already done.

Us Rootschatters can't help until we have some names, dates and places to start us off.  Make it clear what information you are looking for and hopefully we can help.
