I'm not sure that Matthew who married Jane Armstrong was the landlord of the Bay Horse Inn? It looks like Matthew and Jane had children baptised at Stamfordham and Matthew's occupation is given as "teacher of ch music" and later Parish Clerk.  ???

His Burial was 1819;

4 Sept 1819, Matthew Coulson, St Mary the Virgin, Stamfordham
Age 63 (birth c 1756)

I agree on Occp on Childrens Baptisms.
Elizabeth born 1807 and Bapt 1825 has Father as deceased, late Parish Clerk

Yes, Margaret and Elizabeth were baptised on the same day 26 March 1825, though they were born 24 May 1807 (Elizabeth) and 30 March 1810 (Margaret).

It was written on an old family tree by my great aunt Edith who never married and lived to 96 (1888-1984) that he was landlord of The Bay Horse Stamfordham

From my family tree I have the children from oldest to youngest as Jane, William, Anne, Robert, Mary, John (my great x2 grandfather), Elizabeth, Margaret. Are there any other Coulsons living in or around Stamfordham who could be the parents of Matthew? What other records from newspapers, periodicals, land/tax records or copies of parish registers sent to the diocese might have records of his family?

Do you know where the baptisms took place? It seems strange why they would be baptised so long after they were born. What could the reason for this be I wonder? Any ideas?

Matthew COULSON and Jane ARMSTRONG were married at St Mary the Virgin Stamforham, a note on the Bishop's Transcripts says there was no date on the register but that occured between 25 March 1789 and 25 March 1790.

These children were baptised at St Mary the Virgin Stamfordham:
William    21 Nov 1789
Robert (infant, son of Matthew Coulson) buried 5 June 1792  (abode Hawkwell B End)
Anne        3 May 1795  (abode Bridge End)
Robert     19 Nov 1797
Mary        30 Nov 1800
Jane          6 Aug 1818 (born 21 Nov 1804)
Elizabeth   26 March 1825 (born 24 May 1807)
Margaret   26 Mar 1825  (born 30 March 1810)

Why the last 3 were baptised later is hard to say, especially as their father was Parish Clerk. Often children in non-conformist families were baptised later, but this wouldn't seem to apply here.

No John that I can see?  ???
