Clifford Ellis a British home child
« on: Tuesday 18 April 17 01:21 BST (UK) »
Hi, I have found the record of Clifford Ellis who is the great uncle of my husband on your database about British home children. All the information stated I had already found out, however I wondered if there is anyone out there who could help me find out if he married, had children, came back to England? I have all his military records and know that he was injured in ww1 and invalided out of the forces.  I 'lose' him in 1919! Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Rootschat Gillian

Can you tell us when and where he was born?  Do you know when he went to Canada?  Do his military records give any family information?  Was he in the UK or Canadian army?

What databases have you already looked at?

Having some more information would assist in trying to find out more about him, particularly when and where he was born.

Thank you for your replies, I will check the USA link shortly.   I know quite a lot about Clifford but it's from 1919 that I have no  information.
Clifford Ellis was born 8th July 1897 Leeds West Yorkshire England, his parents were Alfred and Ellen (nee Fowler) and in 1901 he was living in Parliament Road with his parents and siblings, Henry, Albert, Edward, George and Gladys. In about 1907 his father died, and in 1908 Clifford was taken to Canada with Dr Barnardo's on board the Dominion departing from Liverpool.  I have recently found out that he was taken to 214 Farley Avenue Toronto which is a Dr Barnardo's 'distributing'  centre before going to Saskatchewan to work for Mr Obediah McPherson on a farm. He appears to have lied about his age on his military records, he was injured and was discharged from service in 1919.

Hmm, not sure if this is relevant but there is a Florence Clifford age 30 with a Clifford Ellis age 1 travelling in August 1919 on the Cassandra - Canada Passenger Lists 1881 - 1922.  It looks as though Clifford is the son of Clifford RRB.

If this is your Clifford it would suggest that he married two or three years before 1919 maybe.

This info is from the Family Search website.

I have seen this record but according to his military records he was still single in 1919, so unsure if  this is related. Thanks for taking the time to help.
