Eliza Ashman
« on: Tuesday 18 April 17 05:18 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find burial records for my GG Grandmother, Eliza Decuster Ashman, she was born in 1838 in Tasmania but died in Frankston, Victoria,  15 December 1881.
Also that of her son from her first marriage, he was William Henry Butcher, born 1858 in Hobart and died in 1906 , Melbourne. There is a family story that William was buried with his mother in the Melbourne Cemetery, not confirmed though.
Any help appreciated
Cheers Craig

Either of their death certificates would give you their places of burial.  You can purchase an image online and download it to your computer.

Have you contacted the Melbourne General Cemetery?

Was her husband 'George'.

If so it looks like she is at Melbourne General Cemetery. Last column, 2nd from bottom: http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article201989367

Trove has a funeral notice for the wife of George ASHMAN, to be buried at Melbourne General Cemetery, 16 December 1881. No forename given for the wife.

Did she die after childbirth as there is a birth notice for a son born 1 December, 1881, to the wife of Geroge ASHMAN, at Flemington? No forename given for the wife.

Thanks, and yes , Eliza remarried to George Ashman and they had a son George Decuster Ashman, my great grandfather, he moved back to Tasmania after his wife's death along with his son. Eliza's son to her first marriage , William Henry Butcher, remained in Melbourne. It is possible he is buried with his mother. I haven't checked with Melbourne General Cemetery yet Cando, as I wasn't sure of her final resting place, I did try searching Melbourne cemeteries on line but couldn't find her
