George Herd Sunderland
« on: Tuesday 18 April 17 16:55 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find information relating to George Herd who moved to Sunderland County Durham from Scotland he was born1844 to Thomas and Mary and died 1877. Married to Eleanor(Elleanor) neč Chisholm, son Alexander and daughter Margaret Chisholm Herd( my Great Grandmother)

I can't find marriage or death certificates for George or Eleanor(the latter seems to have several first name spellings and several last names (Hood, Herd, Wood)
I can find the 1881 and 1891 census for Eleanor and the children after which I can't find her.
Does anyone know if she remarried or did she also die young.

Grateful for any help :)

There is a death of a George Herd age 33 -
q3 1877, Sunderland
Vol 10a Page 323

RDT already knows the date of death  :-\
from another thread
She was the daughter of George Herd (the policeman who moved to England) I wondered if anyone had any more information regarding George who died 1st July 1877
I found census for 1881 and 1891 for his wife and children in Sunderland, County Durham but have no idea what happened.

There is an 1877 burial in Sunderland on Durham Records Online for a George Herd aged 33, abode 14 Devonshire Street.

An article in the Sunderland Daily Echo and Shipping Gazette of 5 July 1877 states that George was an 'experienced and respected officer of the Sunderland Borough Police force'. It states that he died of consumption on 1st July 1877 and that he was buried at Fulwell Cemetery,  attended by 'the police band and a large force of officers under Supt. Nicholson'.
