Woods, Master, Tahourdin, White. Blakesley Towcester Northamptonshire
« on: Tuesday 18 April 17 17:03 BST (UK) »
I am looking for information on four families, three of whom who lived in and around Blakesley, near Towcester Northamptonshire. Woods, Master, Tahourdin and White.
My 3 x grandparents married in Marylebone June 1842 but my 3 x grandfather Henry William Woods 1805 - 1883, son of Benjamin Woods (who came from Blakesley) and Lucy White, Hampshire. Henry William Woods married Eliza Tahourdin 1807 - 1892, daughter of Gabriel Tahourdin, a merchant in London of Huguenot descent, but I cannot find any information about her or her parents, apart from the marriage certificate.
The White's are connected to Gilbert White of Selborne, the naturalist, and there is plenty of information about this extended Hampshire family.

They married just after the 1841 census St Marys in Marylebone so should be able to find Eliza in 1841 which might help with other family members.

Marriage gives her address as 32 George St Portman? Square

Witness could also help if related to Eliza,  I think they are Georgiana Watson, Sophie Ostergaard

Birth year for Eliza is consistent throughout census at 1807.  Born London/Marylebone.

There's a Sophia Tahourdin born 21 Nov 1806 baptised 3 Feb 1807 Westminster father Edward mother Charlotte - could she be the Sophia witness to the marriage?

Frederick Tahourdin baptised 22 Nov 1806 parents Peter and Georgiana another of the witnesses names so looks like the families are related.

Actually there are quite a few baptisms for children of Peter and Georgiana but not found Eliza daughter of Gabriel yet.

Bit early to be your Gabriel perhaps but marriage Lambeth Gabriel Tahourdin to Mary Le Bas in 1768.  He could still have fathered a child in 1807 but maybe not with the same lady!

One of the other baptisms had the name Peter Le Bas so the names are linked somehow.

Need a clever person to look up the address for Eliza in 1841.

There's a Gabriel Tahourdin in the Queens Bench Prison in 1841, a Solicitor aged 60 (indexed as Tabourdin)

You might like to take a look at the London Gazette. Search for Gabriel Tahourdin online at  https://www.thegazette.co.uk/all-notices  . Looks like a family name for which there are many hits, for example ...

1821 regarding the bankruptcy of Gabriel Tahourdin.
1780 regarding Reverend Gabriel Tahourdin.
1731 regarding the letting of a large house in Wanstead, Essex, that had been in the possession of the late Gabriel Tahourdin, merchant.

A general search for Tahourdin appears to give over 300 hits !
Almeroth, Germany (probably Hessen). Mawer, Softley, Johnson, Lancaster, Tatum, Bucknall (E.Yorks, Nfk, Lincs)

I see that I put the wrong date for the wedding of Henry William Woods of Blakesley in Northamptonshire and Eliza Tahourdin of Marylebone. They married on 24 June 1841 in St Mary's Church, Marylebone, Middlesex, not 1842 as previously indicated. I am no further forward with finding information about her father Gabriel Tahourdin.
