Help   pleeeease
I'm trying to find any records of a birth/adoption in 1958 Leeds West Riding Yorkshire
Everywhere I search ends in circles   or nothing  !!  Could this be because it was a Catholic run home for unmarried mothers ??

Hello RubyG and welcome to the forum ;D
Firstly more information is needed for someone to help you , name and date of birth.
Is it your own record that you are looking for ?

Have you tried contacting the General Register Office at Southport?

Welcome from me too RubyG.  :)

We aren't allowed to post names of people who may still be living so please bear that in mind.
You indicate that you have been trying for some time so that might be something to post - action so far.
You have probably looked at this: https://www.gov.uk/adoption-records/the-adoption-contact-register

If you have the details, would the Diocese of Leeds be a place to try?

Best wishes
Heywood

Thank you everyone for your comments,
I'm looking on behalf of my mother for her son
I'll try the Diocese of Leeds I know there has been a lot of controversy about the Catholic homes at that time so maybe another reason ?
Everywhere seems to cost a fortune and it maybe that he didn't ever find out he was adopted

Hi Ruby

If your mother is looking for her son then please register here

https://www.gov.uk/adoption-records/the-adoption-contact-register

or here

http://www.adoptionsearchreunion.org.uk/default.htm

or here

http://www.missing-you.net/categories/adoptions.php

in the hope that he is looking for his birth family.

The chatters here aren't trained intermediaries and historic adoptions were of a hugely sensistive nature, any advice we give can only be general.

If your mother knows his name after adoption, she could try to trace him in the normal way such as looking for marriage records, electoral registers and social media.

If she doesn't know his name since the adoption then I urge your mother to contact the General Register Office as they should be the ones holding his files. Whilst they won't grant your mother access, they might be able to suggest who to contact in the Leeds area.

Good luck.
