Sir Murdoch McKenzie Wood -obituary notices 1949-1950
« on: Wednesday 26 April 17 11:20 BST (UK) »
To my shame, I have been unable to find any obituaries for my wife's uncle murdo who was a liberal M.P. and deputy Lieutenant for Banffshire.     Help would be much appreciated.

Welcome to Rootschat

A check on Scotlands People index shows he died in 1949 Reg District Cullen.  A Google search shows it was 11.10.1949 to narrow any search for an obit

Looked in the papers for 1949...

Did find one entry in the deaths

13 October 1949 - The Scotsman - Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland

There is a more detailed piece about him

The Scotsman 18 October 1949

hope this helps

Thanks for that, The Scotsman is where I most expected to find one.    I now ned to improve my technique for searching.     I also strongly expect something in The (London) Times.

There are a number of photos of him and his wife on Ancestry if you have a subscription.  Apparently he was in the Gordon Highlanders and given Freedom of the City of London

Lots of different documents online

Thank you for that.    I suspect you met up with the photographs etc in the Wood_Henderson of Cullen tree, for which I am responsible.    Having said that I was not aware that uncle Murdo had been awarded Freedom of the City of London and my wife likewise.    I presume reference to this should be somewhere in the London Gazette.     I like your cat, it looks well cross with life or perhaps just with the camera.

There is an obituary in the Manchester Guardian 15th October 1949. If you don't have access to this article, pm me an email address and I will send you a copy.
