Quite possibly there are no marriage records for the time frame you would require.  The USA does not have a BMD index - what is available varies State to State and County to County. You could try and trace the Peterson family forward in the hope of finding obituaries which might mention other relatives.

Possible - 1920 Census Precinct 11, Jefferson, Alabama

Mark Peterson   22 Mamie Peterson   20
Jessie Peterson   2
Jr Mark Peterson   0
Dean Burman   50
Percy Burman   25
Rose Lee Burman 14
Dan Burman   21
Caris Burman   18
Hollman Caroline Burman   13

1940 census

There is an Anc tree showing that Jessie Peterson was married to Ethel D S Hawthorn ( born June 1927 Hull ) Passed away Southampton under the name Ethel Swatman  (aged 20 years)
Can see a birth for Ethel D S Hawthorn in Hull (maiden surname of mother Reeves ) and a death of Ethel Swatman in Southampton but no marriage to Jessie Peterson  ???
Mother Harriet Reeves seems to have married a Herbert Swatman in Hull 1929 - this appears to be a second marriage. Previously she was married to Ernest Glendower Hawthorn in 1913 who would appear to be Ethels father.
