Hi all

I'm struggling to locate the marriage details of the parents of Arthur Wilson.

Arthur is listed in the following 1861 census as being 2 years old and son of John and Sarah Ann:
Code: [Select]
Piece 1226
Folio 98
Page number 6

I believe this is Arthur's birth record (registered in Blofield district, same as above census result):

Code: [Select]
Registration Year 1859
Registration Quarter Apr-May-Jun
Inferred County Norfolk
Volume 4B
Page 203

The GRO site lists Sarah's maiden name as 'Clarke'. I am therefore looking for the marriage of John Wilson to Sarah Ann Clarke.

The aforementioned census shows their eldest son (Arthur's brother) as 19 in 1861 and I therefore assume their marriage was in early 1840s/late 1830s. I am almost certain the marriage will have been in Norfolk.

I have been able to find the following for 'Sarah Ann Clark':

Code: [Select]
Name: Sarah Ann Clarke
Registration Year: 1842
Registration Quarter: Jul-Aug-Sep
Registration district: Blofield
Volume: 13
Page: 45

which looks promising (right year and right location) but I can't find John's equivalent record.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

Looking at the 1851 there is a child (Edward) born c.1838, Blofield. Therefore the marriage could be before then.

Hi,

Looking at the 1851 there is a child (Edward) born c.1838, Blofield. Therefore the marriage could be before then.

baptism from FreeREG:

Wilson, Jonathan Edward to parents John & Sarah Anne Wilson (John a Labourer) on 26th July 1837 at St Andrew & St Peter Church, Blofield, Norfolk.

Don't however see a marriage on there for John & Sarah Ann unfortunately.

Hope the above baptism helps anyway.

Kind regards

Unfortunately, still can't find any record of the marriage.

Neither can I  ??? Nothing showing on FreeReg for a Wilson/Clarke marriage.

Thanks very much.

Just out of interest, what possible reasons would there be as to why there is no record of the marriage (assuming they were married)? Do records just get lost or might it be that the marriage was never recorded for some reason?

Could be that they didn't get married or perhaps the parish in which they were married has yet to be transcribed.

Had thought they would have married in Blofield but no records found.
