John COX & John Lewin COX - Handwriting comparison 1844.
« on: Tuesday 02 May 17 12:16 BST (UK) »
Attached is the signature of John COX, a FWK, at his marriage in 1844 aged about 46.

Would appreciate a comparison to the signature of John Lewin COX, at his marriage in 1816.

Many thanks,

bitzar.

It looks like a transcribed copy doesn't it - all in the same hand ( as you mentioned on another thread http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=770762.new;topicseen#new )

To me, the writing is all in the same hand, even the registrar's signature.

Many thanks again.

bitzar.

Is there a way I can see what the 'actual' signature reads on the 'original' document?!  The marriage was solemnized at Leicester Union Register Office.

Regards,

bitzar.

The original register should be still at Leicester Register Office - you could contact them and see if it is possible to get a scan of the register page.

A Frances Cox, spinster, married John Jones bachelor of Smethwick, Staffs at St Margaret on 17 Nov 1835, and one of the witnesses was John Cox.   The signature looks very similar to me - what do you think?

MORGAN: Glamorgan, Durham, Ohio. DAVIS/DAVIES/DAVID: Glamorgan, Ohio.  GIBSON: Leicestershire, Durham, North Yorkshire.  RAIN/RAINE: Cumberland.  TAYLOR: North Yorks. BOURDAS: North Yorks. JEFFREYS: Worcestershire & Northumberland. FORBES: Berwickshire, CHEESMOND: Durham/Northumberland. WINTER: Durham/Northumberland. SNOWBALL: Durham.

I REALLY want it to be similar but I'm not sure.  The J seems different and the X has a definite flourish.
