Mary Ann Dixon
« on: Thursday 04 May 17 03:54 BST (UK) »
Mary Ann Dixon was my great great grandmother.  She was born in 1830/31 in Cowpen.  She married Matthew Ferguson (DOB 1816 Blyth) in 1853.  This was Matthew's second marriage.  His first was to Henrietta Carnaby (DOB 1816 Blyth) in 1829.

Matthew and Mary had seven children.  Mary H DOB 1856, Sarah Ann DOB 1858, Margaret Jane DOB 1860, Elizabeth DOB 1864, Henrietta DOB 1869, Matthew Richard DOB 1871 and Martha DOB 1873.

Elizabeth married John Gray on 2 September 1882 and migrated to Australia some time after that.  They had five children all born in Newcastle, NSW. Mary A Gray, Jane Ferguson Gray, Matthew Ferguson Gray, John Gray and Herbert Gray.

My grandfather was Matthew Ferguson Gray.

I would like to find out more about the Ferguson family of Cowpen.

No, I have only just started on this branch of the family.  I have the Australian descendants of Elizabeth Ferguson but very little on the UK ancestors.

I did see the census where Mary was the housekeeper but I don't know anything else other than the names of their children from subsequent census which may or may not be correct!

The only reason I know the name Mary Ann Dixon is because it was on her daughter Elizabeth's death certificate.

So I don't know the connection to James Carnaby or what happened to Henrietta.

Thanks.  Do you have details of the children of Matthew Ferguson and Mary Ann Dixon?  I found Matthew Richard Ferguson's family on a website which uses census information.

Is that Matthew Ferguson's father who is also a Matthew?

Any other information in relation to the UK families would be appreciated as I have none.

Blyth NBL baptisms could be at Earsdon or Horton parishes. From Horton Bishop's Transcripts marriage 24 March 1810 Matthew FARGUSON & Hannah NICHOL.

Have checked the baptisms  in BT's for both parishes 1815-1817 and did not spot Matthew
