Looking for a 'Robert Hepplewhite' from Durham
« on: Sunday 07 May 17 20:56 BST (UK) »
Hi all

I thought this would be an easy one to identify given the fairly unusual surname but alas it has not!

I am looking to identify John Hepplewhite's father, Robert, listed in John's birth certificate here:

http://imgur.com/a/TN9Fa

A search of Robert Hepplewhite's born between 1890 and 1910 (I assume it likely that Robert was born between in this period given John's birth in 1925).

The search reveals three possible 'Robert Hepplewhite's:

Code: [Select]
Registration Year: 1898
Registration Quarter: Oct-Nov-Dec
Registration district: Auckland
Volume: 10a
Page: 186

Code: [Select]
Registration Year: 1900
Registration Quarter: Apr-May-Jun
Registration district: Easington
Volume: 10a
Page: 449

Code: [Select]
Registration Year: 1904
Registration Quarter: Oct-Nov-Dec
Registration district: Sedgefield
Volume: 10a
Page: 122

I assume the first likely to be John's father as both are in Bishop Auckland. However, is it possible to obtain something more definitive to prove the first Robert is John's father? It is especially difficult as census results for the period after John's birth have not been released yet.

Many thanks

Hi,

Don't know whether you already have the following details or not but...

John Hepplewhite's birth cert from 1925 gives a mothers name as Irene Sant & the only Robert Hepplewhite to an Irene Sant marriage is as follows:

Hepplewhite, Robert to Sant, Irene; Dec Qtr 1922; Willesden Reg Dist; Volume 3a Page 651.

Willesden is of course in North London. Could one or both of the parents have been from the London/Middlesex area?

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

Thanks. I suppose that makes it more likely but would you accept that as sufficient evidence?

No, more responding to the query about the London link, but it is an interesting connection and possibility

As you know, a marriage certificate would confirm the identity of Robert's father.

Have a look at the free index on Findmypast for the 1939 Register to see who is in Irene's household:

Irene    Hepplewhite    Born 1900

Ruth    Callaghan (Hepplewhite)    Born 1929

George W    Hepplewhite    Born 1873
