Electoral Register 1832-1932
« on: Tuesday 09 May 17 20:17 BST (UK) »
Hi
In the 1905 Electoral Register for Heworth County Durham one of my relatives seems to be registered with two homes. In column (1) is his name James Solomon, column (2) his address 5 South Parade, column (3) his abode Dwelling House (successive) and in column (4) two address's 5 South Parade & 23 Third Street. My question's are why would it show two address's, why does the word in brackets (successive) follow his place of abode and showily he wouldn't have two votes ??

Where the word "successive" appears in the registers it means that the elector had occupied, during the 12 months qualifying period, more than one property within the particular constituency, each of which was of a sufficient rateable value to qualify its occupier to vote.

Hi Stan
Thank you very much for your help it answers a lot of questions relating to other relatives. One of the questions I needed to answer was which son was a witness to their Fathers Death, he had four sons all with the initial 'J' and on his death certificate it just has J Solomon as the witness and the address, the Register and your explanation to my question has helped me identify which son it was.
Once again thank you very much.
