Deaths at sea, mariners ,COMPLETED IN RECORD TIME THANK YOU
« on: Wednesday 10 May 17 08:03 BST (UK) »
A little help needed please,
can anyone access BT334 records for the year 1897
The Sunshine,
other than Lloyds registers I have been unable to  find any other information on the ship that would help me trace her movements in 1897

I have discovered whilst helping a friend get started on her family history,
that two of her ancestors died possibly at sea,on the Sunshine circa 1897
it would be grand to add some details their names were
Edward Broderick (father) and James Douglas Broderick son of Edward and Ann
the family were living in South Shields in 1897
Edward was from Seaton Sluice originally
Thanks in advance

Shields Daily News 19 Aug 1898

Supposed Loss of a Ketch :

All hope is now abandoned for the ketch Sunshine of Brixham , which left Sunderland on the 20th July with coals for Loch Broom and which was owned by Mr Adam Logan , coal merchant , of Berwick. The vessel was manned by a crew of 3 hands , consisting of the Master , Captain Broderick , and his son and another *. Since the departure of the Sunshine the friends of Captain Broderick , who reside in South Shields , have not heard any tidings of the vessel whatever , and as stormy weather prevailed the day after her departure the gravest fears are now entertained , as the voyage from Sunderland to Loch Broom is usually accomplished in 3 or 4 days.

The article goes on to say that the master of a steam trawler which put in to the Tyne reported seeing a small vessel founder.

* the third person missing is identified as Middleton in Deaths at Sea.
