Hi Shawn
Rats, I found a John Sinclair SUTHERLAND on IGI but born 1872 in Caithness  :)

Have you seen the IGI 1841 marriage of a Marion MILLER to a John SUTHERLAND:
18 DEC 1841   Old Monkland, Lanark, Scotland
The entry also says Marion was born abt 1820 - they are 'submitted' entries rather than original record transcriptions.

Also have you seen the FREECEN   - which may help at some stage.

Also, I see on web there was an Earl of Caithness named John Sutherland Sinclair (in late 1800's) and that  the Sinclair/StClair goes back generations - may be something in it for you sometime?

Sorry I can't be of more help!
