birth certificate amendment
« on: Thursday 25 May 17 11:23 BST (UK) »
Hi All

I have recently obtained my grans BC. It is showing that there was an amendment to her christian name after the original registration. There are no details on the certificate stating by who or when the request was made.
Does anyone please know how I can find the details

Regards

Have been helping Maureen via PM, but it is confusing her as a novice to FH via PM the timeline history.  There was no father listed on BC, she wants to know if possible can GRO supply info who made the amendment and date of amendment that may lead to a father..there is a possible.

Birth address has given link to birth mother, via census.

Working out what happened depends on what type of change happened on the registration - there are essentially three ways a name could alter :

1) a simple correction, where the name was wrongly entered.
2) A name change after registration (added in column 10), usually after baptism
3) by re-registration.

The wording of the certificate should make it clear which applies therefore what the process would have been and who would have needed to apply. If the father isn't named, he wouldn't be able to make a change so it won't be him.

This is the family at address of BC in 1871

Thank you Anthony, was hoping you would see this and clarify. So the possible father would not be able to amend, even though living with him & family in 1881, mother likely died 1876. Could you be able to find out the date of amendment at GRO?
