Harpurhey burials
« on: Saturday 27 May 17 11:58 BST (UK) »
I've been trying to track down where some of my relatives were buried without any luck.  I'm looking for William McMullen or Mcmullen b.1839 in Ireland d. 1897 in Cheetham Hill and his wife Jane nee Finigan d.1881 or second wife Mary Jane Richardson.  I think they were Catholics and may have gone to St Luke's (I know that all remains were moved from there to Southern Cemetery).  Any help appreciated

Go on find a grave there are 3 William McMullen's but different dates to what you have. Phillips Park
If you go on deceased online there are 4 listings I put the 3 names in each time it came up each time with 4 listings.  Problem is it will cost you a couple of pounds to view them.  Hope it helps.

Hi gales = I had already looked on findagrave for Phillips Park Cemetery and have just looked again.  I can only see 2 William Mcmullen's and neither of them are in Phillips Park Cemetery or any other cemetery in the Manchester area.  Thanks for looking.

The only William McMullen death in 1897 in the Prestwich RD was aged 54 giving a birthyear of approx 1843

and his wife Jane nee Finigan d.1881

There is no death in 1881 for that name

Have you found William & Jane in 1871/1881?  Son John Edward was b 1868

Thanks Carole - Yes this has to be him, the death date is right and the wife's name is right.  The birth date has been different everywhere, I have him born in Belfast in 1839 but it has been various years.
I'm still looking for a burial for him.  His second wife was Mary Jane Richardson b.1852 d.1918 so he may be with her.

Mary Jane Richardson b.1852 d.1918

There is a Mary McMullen death in 1918 - aged 65.  The re-marriage was 1889 but the only Mary Jane McMullen in that birthyear range on the 1891 was in the Manchester WH and was single.  I can't find  William McMullen in 1891

Is your John Mcmullen the pupil at St Bede's in 1881?

Whereabouts in 1871 living in Gouldon Street, Manchester with Jane F, 1881 Census he is widowed and living with 2 children, 1891 Census was married to Mary Jane and living in Sudell Street, Cheetham, Manchester.  I have no definite death for either wives, I think Jane F died in 1881 and Mary possibly 1918 and yes I too have marriage to Mary as 1889 at St Michaels, Cheetham.  The trouble is there's so many people with the same names!!

heatherjulie - I'm sure he wasn't a pupil at St Bede's, he would have been in his 40s then and looking after 2 children alone!
