heatherjulie - I'm sure he wasn't a pupil at St Bede's, he would have been in his 40s then and looking after 2 children alone!

I meant William's son John

Oh sorry, so many with the same name!  I suppose its possible but I've never heard it mentioned he was at St Bede's.  I don't think the family had any money in those days, it was John Edward who made the money with his tailoring business.

Hi daisynook.
Have you tried St Joseph's Catholic Cemetery at Moston Manchester.
I recently found that my Catholic Great Grandparents who passed away in Salford were buried in St Joseph's Cemetery Moston.
Regards Dave.

It is not the correct one then because he went on to become a priest.

Hi Dave - Its possible William is in Moston cemetery somewhere, the next generation of the family were buried there but I didn't think the cemetery was there in 1890s.

Just looked it up and it was opened in 1872 so its possible.  I have just added Moston cemetery to the findagrave site to see what comes up.

Hi heatherjulie - Do you have a record of William jnr becoming a priest?  I have a wedding photo of John Edward McM junior b.1900, grandson of William snr.  On it there are 2 older looking men priests and I have never been able to trace who they are.  They would be the age group of William's son and there are 2 more William McMullen's all cousins to the William you have referred to.

Daisynook

Pardon my belated 'slightly off the subject' contribution but I'm pretty sure St Lukes, Cheetham was not Catholic.

Also puzzled by 'transfer of remains to Southern Cemetery' - a new one on me.  Could you elaborate please.
