At the moment I wouldn't believe that the Elizabeth Ann Strange/Duffin birth Mar.qtr.1845 Staines is the daughter of George Duffin and Harriet for 2 reasons:

1. NONE of the online trees appear to have the birth certificate (or baptism) of said Elizabeth so how do they know who her parents actually were?

2. NONE of the trees show where said Elizabeth was on 1851 or 1861 census (and if she was a child of George and Harriet why isn't she with them on 1851 census?)

These trees are a classic example of errors in trees - no proof just supposition and many blithely copy this into their own trees.

In the absence of a baptism or sighting in census before her marriage WHY has no-one gone to the next logical step of acquiring her birth certificate?

Could I ask for some help.

Taking a side step from George Duffin the person that I am researching for a cousin is William Leader Duffin born 1819 I thought George was his father but having now seen William's marriage certificate to Sarah Blakesley 8/6/1840 in Lambeth have discovered his fathers name is John could someone tell me John's occupation I cannot read it so I can try to find John on the census.

Also I found a William Leader Duffin baptised on the 13/7/1772 in London perhaps he is William's grandfather.

The occupation looks like 'Currier'

What a lot of crossing out on the marriage cert.  ::)

Wonder if you have the correct marriage. On the marriage cert in 1840 there is no mention of the middle name 'Leader'. However the name Leader is on the records below.

Baptism -

William Leader Duffin
Birth Date - 24 Nov 1819
Baptism Date - 12 Dec 1819
Baptism Place - Saint Anne Soho, Westminster, London
Father - George Walton Duffin

Marriage -

William Leader Duffin, bachelor, butcher
Spouse - Elizabeth Keys
25 Dec 1854, St John the Evangelist, Lambeth
Father Name - George Wharton Duffin, jeweller

It would appear that the are two William Duffins but only one has the middle name leader.

Thank you jj for your replies.

William and Sarah are the correct couple as my cousin is descended from their daughter Emma.
