Eunice ENGLAND birth/baptism c.1787 of Shepton Beauchamp
« on: Saturday 03 June 17 17:42 BST (UK) »
I'm currently stuck on a bit of a brick wall trying to find any birth or baptism information about Eunice England who lived in Shepton Beauchamp. I'm trying to find out who her parents were but haven't had any luck. Some records I've come across have different spellings of her first name as well.

On the 1841 census record it listed her as being born around 1787 she had married Edward Welch in Shepton Beauchamp, Somerset in about 1807. She died in 1850.  Any new information would be greatly appreciated.

GRO Index;
WELCH, EUNICE, age    54 ****
GRO Reference: 1850  D Quarter in CHARD  Volume 10  Page 265

Looks lke whoever reg her Death was way out with her age!

Aaah FreeREG has her Buried 3 Nov 1850 age 64

I noticed living near to Edward and Unice on 1841 Census is a George England age 82
+ a Leah England as a F/S in another Household age 13

Given his age c 1759 is George possible Father for Unice/Eunice?

Did Edward/Eunice name a Son George?

Trish :)

As far as I've been able to research Eunice and Edward didn't have a son named George. They had sons named Thomas, Edward, William, 2 named John because the first one died and a James. It could be a possible lead that the George was her father I'll have to do some further research into that. Unless if not a father he could maybe be an Uncle to Eunice.  Thank you so much for the help so far :)

I cannot find a baptism in Shepton Beauchamp for a (E)unice England in 1787+/- ten years.
The only one that is vaguely possible is an un-named daughter of Samuel and Ann  England in Sept 1790

That does seem like it could be the most possible for a baptism for her. Thank you for the information I greatly appreciate it :)

Yes I agree with glenclare it is likely her.

Oh I did not know that definitely interesting. Was it a rare thing to happen that a child of a few years old having their name left off of the baptism? It does seem to be the correct record though since there is no other sign of a possible baptism for her. Thank you again :)

FreeREG just has a question mark (?) for the name of the female child of Samuel/Ann Baptised 6 Sept 1790 St Michael SB.

This likely means it was hard to read and transcribe.

You would need to see the original record to try and make out the name.

Now there are these 2 Marriages same Church;
SOLOMAN England to Ann DAVEY 19 Oct 1784
SAMUEL England to JANE England 14 Feb 1790

So you see the problem.

Also Familysearch has a Tree for Samuel and they say the Daughter Baptised 1790 was ANN
How they have confirmed this I cant say.
It appears from this she is the Daug of SAMUEL/JANE** so the 1790 record may have been really hard to read.
Other Children of theirs were SARAH 1793/MARTHA 1794

I can confirm from FreeREG that SAMUEL was buried SB 30 April 1813 age 45.
JANE was buried 17 May 1854 age 86**

Now in 1851 Census Jane age 83 (1768) is Married to STEPHEN England

Jane ENGLAND, Widow***, married Stephen ENGLAND, 8 June 1818 St Michael

What I am trying to say is we cant be sure of Eunice/Unices background all all yet.
