Death of Agnes ANDERSON, wife of Reginald, in 1955.  They married in 1931 and she was a widow .  According to a family tree she was born in Scotland in 1896 in Dreghorn. She married Joseph CADY in 1920 in NSW and he died in 1924.

There is a likely remarriage for Reginald in 1956.

From NZ BDM https://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/

Death 1970
Thomas Oliver ANDERSON aged 71 reg 1970/ 41315

Ros

Ros,

I think this may be a different Thomas Oliver Anderson. I found a birth certificate on FindMyPast for Thomas Oliver Anderson born 1885 NSW confirming the parents as Andrew and & Annie Maria Anderson. I also found a death cert for Thomas Oliver Anderson in 1952 in NZ, confirming age as 67 which ties in with 1885 birth.

I only found this due to your research and last entry which stated when Agnes Anderson died in 1955, she was a sister in law of the late Thomas Oliver Anderson. Thanks again for your research which is massively assisting me to progress this part of the family!

Well-spotted Fifer  :)  (sorry my mistake  :( )

By the way you can find the births, deaths, marriages for most of your family on NSW BDM.  http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/   It's free to search and can use wildcards (eg *) and can search deaths or births by parents' names.

It's quite easy to use (well like most of these sites you probably need a little time to get used to it)

By the way if you spot any probate files or divorces at NSW state archives https://www.records.nsw.gov.au/ then I can photograph them next time I am there.  You can just type the name into the main search box.  I think I have been checking as I went but yes worth checking.

Had another look through various sites to establish a bit more around Andrew Paton Anderson.

His parents, John Anderson, age 26 and Margaret Anderson, age 27 boarded the 'Glen Isla' ship in Liverpool, England on 16th March 1857. The 'Glen Isla' arrived in Sydney on 2nd July 1857. Andrew Paton Anderson was born on the voyage.

John Anderson and Margaret Anderson (Paton) had married in Dunfermline, Fife in 1853. Have now found out they had a daughter, Janet Anderson born 1855. I couldn't find Janet Anderson on the passenger list of the 'Glen Isla' as only John Anderson and Margaret Anderson were recorded with no family and so went looking for a death cert which confirmed Janet died aged 21 months on 18 February 1857 in Dunfermline. This was only 4 weeks before the couple left Scotland to emigrate to Australia. Such a sad story.

Looks like after arrival in Australia, John and Margaret Anderson had another 5 children in addition to Andrew Paton Anderson.

Hi Fifer,
Did John perhaps have a middle name Bruce?   Do you know their parents' names?  I can see 12 births in NSW to a Margaret and John ANDERSON between 1857 and 1870.  How have you narrowed them down?

It's getting late (on a very chilly and wet night) but at a quick glance I noticed these deaths in 1885 of a husband and wife John Bruce ANDERSON and wife Margaret.  The ages are close  ...  http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article71024763  However it's just a long shot.

Hmm this passenger list from NSW state archives says John is 25 (an ag lab) and Margaret is 26 (a weaver?)

I'll have another look tomorrow - but any more clues would help.

Hi Ros,

My mistake on ages regarding passenger list, you are right with 25 and 26; not 26 and 27 as I listed.
Occupation as per your passenger list, Dunfermline was a industrial centre for the weaving industry with several large weaving factories in the town.

No record of 'Bruce' in any records I have.

John Anderson, born 02/04/1831 parents were John Anderson (my 3rd great grand uncle) born 1809, Carnock, Fife and Janet Anderson born (own name is also Anderson with no family connection that I've found) born 1810 in Dunfermline.

This John and Janet Anderson (Andrew Paton Anderson grandparents) also emigrated to Australia in 1863 on the 'Hotspur' arriving on 5 December . They had 5 children with them and came from Crossgates in Fife which is next door to Dunfermline.

Will check records I have to date regarding brothers and sister of Andrew Paton Anderson.
Fife - Anderson, Farquhar, Graham, Greenhill, Hume, Paton, Sharp, Penman, Birrell, Christie
Edinburgh / Midlothian - Graham, Watt, Cunningham, Hume, Kerr, Farquhar, McAlpine, Weddell, Stirling, Liddell, Eckford, Finnie
Queensland, Australia - Greenhill
NSW, Australia - Anderson

Missouri, USA - Farquhar
Quebec, Canada - Campbell
Alberta / British Columbia, Canada - Anderson

That's good fifer - the parents' names and  the area helps narrow it down a lot.   Not to mention the death dates. :)

A brief obit to John Anderson of Grenfell in 1911 http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article110027546  A longer obit http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article112190989

Death notice for Margaret 1920(jan) http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article15878308 and gratitude notice http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article120601084

And can restrict the births to John and Margaret ANDERSON by area.  Hmmm just checking where Grenfell is http://www.whereis.com/nsw/grenfell-2810 It is near to Forbes, Cowra and Young.

So perhaps you have all the info about them ...?  And want to focus on the children that you list.  If we follow these children they may show info about brothers and sisters.

Ros

adding : Grenfell cemetery http://www.australiancemeteries.com.au/nsw/weddin/grenfell.htm will do lookups.
