1891 & 1901 Surrey look up please. Watts.
« on: Wednesday 28 July 04 15:02 BST (UK) »
Could anyone look up the following for me?

3 Norfolk Villas, Beauchamp Road Sutton.
4 Stayton Road, Sutton.
If my suspicions are right there should be the name Watts at at least one and this will hopefully lead to the name of my gggparents and a ggaunt/uncle.
Thanks in advance

Thanks Kris,
The 3 Sutton ones all are feasible I guess. You didn't say which year you looked at so not sure of ages. I have Alfred WATTS b. 13/3/1882. He was born in Battersea but his parents, Alfred WATTS and Harriett CORBETT married in Epsom, which is the reg district covering Sutton. The addresses I quoted were where Harry or Henry WATTS (other son of Alfred and Harriett) and Alfred WATTS respectively lived at the time of their marriages in 1906 and 1903. Both the children were born in Walthamstow but Harry/Henry (he used both names) lived and died in Epsom area and Alfred was in nearby Croydon from before 1924. So, they keep cropping up in the Sutton area. I believe the boys had another sibling but have no details. I guess it's possible that the names you found could be uncles and even grandfather perhaps.
Sorry, i'm waffling now. Thanks again.

Here u go Barry
1891 census Sutton Surrey
RG12/544 10 folio 31 pg 55 entry 250

no I cant for the life of me fathom this i followed this linc for Alfred Watts 10 and couldnt find any Watts on the page so I went to the page b4 and there was one of the Georges I mentioned the ref is

 RG12/544 10 Folio 30 page 54 entry 250
George Watts 39 Greengrocer b Sutton Surrey
Jane Watts wife 40 b Somerset ?
John Watts (no relationship)28 looks like Shopkeepers Assistant

now i turn the page and get back on page 55 where i am meant to be and the household continues at 33 high street so it is the right place the right page no mistake there and there just r no other Watts there just
Joseph Blackwell 15 Errand Boy b Surrey Annley
Emma -nd 32 servant b Northamptonshire
Constance -nd 2 b Surrey ?
that is it

now next door at no 35 is the Auscomb family There is Alfred 10 years b Sutton

Sorry Barry but I have been studying this for hours went away and came back to it again...that is the reference number but there is no Alfred Watts on that page. I hate to imagine how many times I have been up and down the page and I cant explain it...there is an Alfred next door but he certainly isnt a Watts

Ill look at the others and try 1901 2 c if they r there so expect more messages
Kris

My word Kris, you were busy!
Yes, that is certainly them! I know Alfred junior had his children in Walthamstow and was a woolens warehouse-man. The only puzzling thing is that they must have moved from Wathamstow to Sutton, got married and then at least Alfred Junior moved back to Walthamstow. Well, I suppose it's not that crazy.
Well you've certainly done me a huge favour and found the missing sibling! My GGAunt Maud! Alfred junior was my Mum's dad's dad and I can just about remember him as he died when I was 4.
Well, all I can say is a huge thank you, it was very kind to go to all that trouble.
Cheers
