John Holtby from Sutterton
« on: Friday 16 June 17 12:07 BST (UK) »
I have a John Holtby, according to the census, born about 1855 in Sutterton, Lincolnshire, England.

I have him on every census from 1871 to 1911 quite happily, but i can not find the first census he would be on.

Because i was stuck i ordered his marriage certificate to Harriet Gallon. That says he was 27 years old on April 23rd 1883, he was a widower, labourer by occupation and his father was Thomas Holtby, deceased at the time of marriage and he was also a labourer.

I just want to find him on the 1861 census to find his full parents' details so i can continue the line back.

Can anyone help with this at all?

I have just returned from holiday and noticed this. I must thank you for this information, it has given me birth years for Elizabeth and Thomas.

It is certainly strange that i can't find either of them on 1851 or 1861 as they were married in 1849 and hadn't passed away yet.

This seems to be the John that passed away at 18 months old according to the previous post.
