Dear Judith,

Yes the brother came out on the "Priam" with May and John Corby,

Yes there was another brother already living in the Kyneton area.  He was Thomas Henry Eason b. 1825 arrived with his wife Jane of the "Palmyra" in 1848..He was a wheelwright.  In 1863 he and Jane and family departed on the "Glencoe" for Port Chalmers, Dunedin, Otago and 6 children where they lived the rest of their lives.

Many thanks,
Pat Backman

Dear Judith,

As far as I can ascertain Mary Eason and John Corby did not have any children.

Many thanks,
Pat Backman

There was another John Lawson DASH in Victoria at about the same time who doesn't seem to be connected to your man.

Judith
John Lawson Dash fits into my family history somewhere.  As far as I know he is not connected Patricia Backman's John Dash.

Dear Sue,
Herewith the information on the death certificate of John Howard (Dash)
Sex and Age.....Male, 29 years
  Thanks,
Pat Backman

Thank you for providing the details.

Age at death is recorded on the index as 69 years.
Is that what is on the certificate?

Dear Sue,
If married where and what age and to whom....Castlemaine District ??years, Mary Eason

Thanks,
Pat Backman

Is it possible to post a snip here of that bit you can't read?  Someone may be able to decipher it for you.

After he got into trouble with the law in the Kyneton area they packed up and moved to Stawell and Glenorchy and became Mr. and Mrs. John Howard and more children were born registered as Howard. Previous children were registered as Dash.

Is my reply #33 the trouble you are referring to?
Have you read the link I attached?
The “trouble” I have linked was in May 1858.

After 1858, another three children were born using the name DASH before the change HOWARD appeared on the registers with the birth of William.

So births in different registration districts were recorded as DASH up to the birth of William in 1868.

Sue

Dear Sue,

That is correct with the registration of the children - Dash while they lived in the Kyneton area and Howard after they moved to Stawell and Glenorchy.  In the early days Stawell was  called Pleasant Creek.

Thanks,
Pat Backman

Mmm...
Well, I am not able to locate the item you have mentioned as occurring in 1860.

It seems an incident hardly worth changing your name about. ;)

And just to repeat myself the first HOWARD child was in  1868
Therefore I find it hard to believe that the change was due to "trouble with the law" if the 1860 incident is all that is recorded against John DASH.

Asking again Have you read the article I have linked in Reply#33?

Dear Sue,

No, this is not correct.

1865 BIRTH

Edward Frederick DASH
Parents John & Mary Eliz EASON
At Pleas.

Anyhow, it seems you are satisfied that John DASH's arrival has been found and that was the original  purpose of your query.  ;D
