What happened to Alice?
« on: Tuesday 20 June 17 20:47 BST (UK) »
Alice Marion Elen was born 17 Dec 1877 in St George Hanover Square, London and baptised on 14 Apr 1878 in St Peter's church, Eaton Square, Pimlico. In 1881, she was living with her mother and stepfather, Rosina and Christopher Sloper and half-sister Amy, using the surname Sloper (incorrectly transcribed as Stofer on census). In the 1891 census, she was listed incorrectly as Alice E Sloper aged 4 (she was actually 14), with same parents and younger brother William. After that she disappears. I think her surname was still officially Elen, so if she married or died it would probably be under that name. Help in tracing her would be much appreciated  :)

There is a marriage in 1895.

ALICE SLOPER married one of these people
Thomas Jones, Ludwig Goebel.   Q2  1895, Pancras, London.

Possible 1901 census

Frederick Street, St Marylebone, Marylebone, London
Alice Jones. b1877 St Pancras, Middlesex.
 William Jones. b1877 Caernarvonshire, Wales.

In 1911 they are in Edgeware Road with 3 children.

For 1901 on ancestry a user has added information that Alice Goebel's maiden name was Sloper.  Perhaps contact could be made with that person for further clarification.

If the marriage of Alice Sloper to  Ludwig Goebel in 1895, Pancras, London. is correct then they are in the 1901 at..

6, Arnold Road East Philip Lane, Tottenham, Edmonton.
Alice's age is 29 which makes her born in 1872. Ludig is much older, 47, born in 1854. Germany.
They are also in the 1911, different address with 5 children.

A well sourced Ancestry tree has Alice Sloper , born 1872 Paddington , as daughter of James Sloper and Alice Walsham and married 1895 Ludwig Goebel. I don't think she is Alice Elen but the marriage cert would confirm.
