Tawton Mills, Bishops Tawton also known as Whitemoor Mills in 1842
The Indenture of 29th September 1877
1000 yr. lease
Comprising:
1st part
Rooms of Mill, 4 pairs stones, drying loft, 2 water wheels, dwelling house, garden, stables, leates, streams, ponds, water course.
2nd part
999 yr. lease
Tawton town tenement 8 acres 34 perches and water course.
Yearly ground rent payable to the Duke of Bedford 13 shillings and 4 pence.

Feb.29th 1842 by Thomas Brailey of Bishops Tawton, the useage conveyed to :

Th.Brailey died 27-12-1864. Sarah Emma his wife died 18-3-1873
Exeter probate to William Albert Brailey his eldest son 28-2-1865
Income to his wife from the estate
Held in Living Trust. Trustees are John Willis, Henry I Gribble, John Thorne Turner
The estate is sold to Th.Vicker miller of Bishops Tawton for £1,800 29-9-1877

1546 March 1st 37 Henry V111. The manors of Bishops Clist and Bishops Tawton plus other villages on 50 year lease to the Dean & Chapter to Lord Russell, Usher of the Chamber.
After in 1651 it was sold by William Earl of Bedford to Peter Beavis.




1811 19 June The Great Tythes are for sale to 3 healthy persons under 20. Also the Shilston Estate, Bishops Tawton
11 July 1816 for sale. The farms Higher and Lower Callacot were sold (fee simple) also a strata of lime rock.
By freehold lease the Manor of Tawton Deane at Bishops Tawton from the Dean of Exeter.
The tithes were offered in 3 separate lots July 22nd 1817 at the Three Pigeons pub.

1 May 1819 for sale. The farms Higher and Lower Callacot were sold (fee simple) also a strata of lime rock.
By 1819 the Great Tithes are offered at the Fortescue Arms, Barnstaple on June 10th.
Also pasture at Landkey. Shilstone Farm.
1823 for sale The Great Tithes which covered 800 acres
           The Manor of Tawton comprising a total of 429 acres, 24 houses with tithes on 129 acres with the houses part of the 429.
Barnstaple on June 10th. This must have been the time William Brailey bought the Manor of Tawton and tithes for Thomas and two sisters.
1841 25th September
Tawton Mills for sale
Comprising, dwelling house, stables, out houses
Two water wheels and four stones.
67 years of lease left at ground rent of £16 pa.
The leasee by Mr Th. Harris of Newport, who is also selling Palfremans otherwise Baples Field otherwise Gutterstone.
1842 owner Mr.Saunders selling with West Whitemoor farm.

1843 July 18th Samuel Ford the Miller tried to stop the cogs at the end of the day by hand and his shirt caught in the mesh and he was mangled to death. Aged 40.
1854 September 24th the dau. of Mr.Prout miller fell 20 feet from the top floor of the mill and didn’t kill herself.
