Morrin and Walsh, Clonbur
« on: Sunday 25 June 17 17:18 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

Whilst I am having a lot of success in tracing family in England, I am really struggling with my Irish ancestors. Would appreciate any help you guys might have to offer. In particular I am looking for information of my great great grandparents, Patrick Morrin and Mary Walsh.

After struggling to trace my great-grandfather Patrick Morrin, Ancestry's DNA service put me in touch with a 2nd cousin (once removed) who was able to provide information I lacked.

So my great grandfather was Patrick Morrin, born in Gortnaclossough, Clonbur, Galway in 1878.
His father was another Patrick Morrin and his mother Mary Walsh.

Patric and Mary had the following children:

Mary Morrin

1865– Bridget Morrin

1867– Margaret Morrin

1869– Michael Morrin

1869  Catherine Morrin

1874– Marie Morrin

1878– Patrick Morrin

1878– Julia Morrin

1883– Ellen Morrin

1884– Elizabeth Morrin

A number of the daughters moved to Pennsylvania and my great-grandfather moved to England. However, their parents stayed in Clonbur and are on the 1901 and 1911 census.

1901 shows:
Patrick Moran    55
Mary Moran    55
Michael Moran    30
Ellie Moran            17
Lizzie Moran    15

1911 shows:
Patrick Morrin    72
Mary Morrin    71
Micheal Morrin    38
Lizzie Morrin    21
Tom Walsh    18 (Tom was Mary's nephew)

Suggestions and tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Hallmark but this seems 30 years too late as their first child was born in the 1860s. Also, I know the name Morrin and Moran are interchangable at times but all their records in Ireland are listed as Morrin.

Civil registration of births didn't start until 1864 and since the 1911 census says they were married 52 years (c1859) there could be children born between 1859-1863.
Registration of Catholic marriages also began in 1864 so you'll probably need to check church records for the marriage and any older children.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
