WOOTTON, CASON, The Lee, Buckinghamshire
« on: Thursday 29 June 17 16:25 BST (UK) »
Looking for help with ancestor John WOOTTON, born per 1841 census about 1771 in Bucks.
He married Hannah CASON on 9 May 1790 in The Lee, Buckinghamshire. I don’t have the details, just an index entry so I don’t know by Banns or Lic, witness names, whether they signed, etc. I am guessing by Banns. John was an Ag Lab in the census. He died in October 1841. Hannah died in 1843.

I am looking for the parents/siblings of both Hannah and John. They had several children between 1790 and 1804: Ann, Mary, Elizabeth, William, Hannah, Jane, and John, all baptized in the Lee.
I tried emailing the Bucks FHS for a search but it’s been two weeks with no response. Hoping someone here may have a CD for the area and could help do a look up.

Thanks in advance!

From the same source............

Marriage.  11 Nov 1766.  by Banns
William(x)WOOTTON otp
Anne EATON otp.
Witnesses.  John Newton & Timothy Stevens.

May, or may not be John's parents.  But year of marriage seems to add up for his birth year of c1768.  One for your notes.

Burial. 28 May 1799.  Ann WOTTON. ((no age or relationship noted). Possible wife of William Wootton. ?? )).

Thank you! Do you happen to see any children baptized to William and Ann Wootton in the parish? (Hoping I might recognize some family names). John did name his first son William and first daughter Ann.

No, sorry.  No children baptised at the The Lee. :(

I don't think The Lee was the families main center of 'operations' and origin.  First record is William Wootton marraige, in 1766.  Last record is 1862.  A short time span in FH terms in those days.

I'll check Great Missenden & Wendover.......they are the usual suspects for family origins, if they were using The Lee.

Great Missenden and Wendover have records for Woottons, but not for your John Wootton baptism, nor any children for William Wootton and Ann(Eaton).

Does John Wootton and Hannah, show as born in county in the 1841 census.

BucksFHS are in the throws of getting their yearly open day ready, on the the 29th July.....and as it is run by volunteers, it may be worth sending an email to see if if they have looked for John's baptism.

Don't forget the variations of the surname, as I've come across 7 so far.  Worten, Worton, Woton, Wotton, etc etc.

Hi Steve,

Yes, they are both shown as born in county.

I saw a thread mentioning some Woottons in Cuddington (Kiddington?) which is not terribly far, and a person called BURCH is a witness. I'm wondering if they might be connected.

I think I will try the Bucks FHS again for a county-wide search. Thank you again for all of your help!
