David Dickson , born whitby yks uk 1785

Iwere .. have been searching for more news of my great great grandfather for many years and just cannot learn any more . He was christened 20-11-1785 in Whitby , married his first wife on 8-5-1819 , she must have died and he remarried Mary Pearson nee Day at ST Mary's Church Whitby on 6-8-1815 .I have just realised the date of his first marriage must be wrong . He only had one son David born in Whitby 1-2-1822 , who in 1841 census was living in Lawrence St  York with his mother and stepbrother George Pearson . What has happened to William Dickson I don't know  I would like to find out and who his parents siblings and maybe grandparents were . Hoping someone could help I would be so grateful thank you . Just clarifying - David baptised 8 Feb 1822 Whitby - parents William & Mary

Does the marriage to Mary Pearson state that William was widowed  :-\

Are you sure he was himself "David"? There's a David Dickson with the baptismal date you quote in 1822 born Whitby, who has as his parents a William and a Mary.
Please can you clarify if you seek ancestry of David 1822 or a David 1785?

There's a William Dickson m (6 Aug 1815, Whitby) a Mary Pearson. That sounds relevant to me, if Dad is a William, rather than a David?

According to a tree on Ancestry, William the father may well have originated in Ireland ... or Scotland. That one certainly had a son David of the right age, it seems.

On David's baptism William is a Sawyer, so these also appear to be his children:

11 May 1816 (born 10 May) William s/o William & Mary Dixon, Whitby, Sawyer
04 Jul 1820 (born 1 July) John s/o William & Mary Dixon, Whitby, Sawyer

Another possible at Whitby:
05 Oct 1818 (born 2 Oct) Susanna s/o William & Mary Dixon, Whitby, Labourer (Susanna Dixon aged 1 was buried 25 Apr 1820, no parents named).

This one could also be a possible at York, St Denys:
29 Jan 1824 Bennison s/o William & Mary Dickson, Walmgate, Labourer

While searching for William Dickson in the census I used Dixon & came across a William Dixon sawyer in Yorks. St. Denys.
May not be him but worth a look.

Mary was 64 in 1841 so it would put them both as born c 1776/1777
