George Dickinson
« on: Saturday 01 July 17 21:00 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find more about my great grandfather George Dickinson.  Born Follifoot, Yorkshire 1843. Married Jane Weatherill and had seven children: Charles, Martha Ann, Edmond, Walter, Louisa (my grandmother married James Wilks) Emily and Frank.  After the 1881 census he left and deserted this family. He then seems to be with a Susannah/Susan Dickinson, although I cannot find a marriage, but there were two children Arthur & Florence.  In 1891 he was living with someone called Kate in Wortley and in 1901 he is a lodger with a Fanny Casson. He dies in Stanley Royd Asylum, Wakefield in 1912 next of kin Susan!  Just wondering if anyone knows anything of these women, or if there was another George born Follifoot area at the same kind of time.

I take it this is the Susannah, Arthur and Florence living in Leeds? I'm not sure ow you connect them with George from Follifoot, if he;s not with them on any censuses?

From searching the GRO birth registers Arthur and Florence appear to have mother's maiden name Jackson. There's a Susan(nah) Jackson b rigth place and date (Pickering c 1852) on earlier censuses

The George born Follifoot 1843 lives in wortley Leeds. I cannot find his death except there is a George of the right age who died Stanley royd assylum 1912 Next of kin Susan Dickinson and his son Arthur writes to the asylum. Where was susan's husband on all the censuses? if he was my George was he living with other women bearing in mind he had deserted his first family.

There is one potential issue - there's a third Dickinson child with mmn Jackson b Leeds, but in 1893 (Nora - she dies the same quarter as her birth)

George Dickinson married Jane Weatherill 1863.
Still together in 1881.
1891 Jane listed as married but no George so looks like he ran.

I didn't know about Nora and that is a potential problem because George born follifoot was living with someone called Kate dickinson as his wife on the 1891 but there is no marriage to either Kate or susan that I can find. George was still with Jane my great grandmother in 1881 but he left them after that.

I don't know how you make the connection to Susan either.
Can you explain.

I can find George living Wortley 1901 as a lodger. Cannot find his death and I can't find him on the 1911 but there is a George dying Stanley Royd asylum 1912 of the right age and occupation. This George's next of kin is Susan. Yet there is no marriage for them and her husband is never on the census. In the absence of a death for my George it seems possible but I am not 100% hence the post on here

Think the chap in the asylum is already there in 1911

I can see the logic, but it does involve a certain degree of supposition
