Enriquez family Malta to Alexandria Egypt
« on: Sunday 02 July 17 12:38 BST (UK) »
Hi there,
Would appreciate any help with this.
My father was born Giulio Enriquez in Alexandria Egypt, nationality listed as Maltese (on his baptism certificate). I have seen his record on the registry for births UK (so is listed at the UK GRO). His father is named Antonio Enriquez, DOB 15/6/1906, Alexandria Egypt, nationality listed as Maltese on his marriage certificate. I can not find his record on the UK GRO)
What I am really trying to find out is his father (my great-grandfather), called Giulio Enriquez, date of birth and who his father and grandfather is. All I know about this Giulio is my dad says he was born in Malta, he married a Rosaria Foti, probably married in Alexandria Egypt but I don't know the date, died in Alexandria Egypt between 1937-1940.
I have looked at a number of sites like FindMyPast and the Maltese databases on Geneanum, and ArchivesportalEurope. I can see a number of Enriquez in Malta, have made some connections, can see which ones emigrated to Alexandria Egypt, just can't make the connection to my great-grandfather, or find out any info on him.
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.
Also, any suggestions about obtaining births/deaths info/certificates from Egypt for period before 1952 would be great.
Thanks very much
Rodney

Hi,
There is a Will of a Walter Enriquez died in Egypt in 1962.
is this any help?
Also a ship record for an Albert and Ursula Enriquez.
And a medal record.
Do you know of a Hugo?
Do you know if any one was a Barber?

@Maggsie
Thanks for taking the time to look and then respond.
No, this Walter is unknown to our family. My family left Egypt in 1952.
The others you mention, I have seen them while searching but again unknown to our family.
Thanks for your effort

@Nanny Jan
Thank you for your response and time taken to respond.
The Antonio you mention is not the one. He was born in 11 April 1902, and married in 1921-25. I've looked at this record. My grandfather Antonio was born June 15, 1906 and married July 1934 to Magdalena Valente (Italian). I haven't yet pieced together who the parents of this other Antonio b1902 are, they may or may not be related to the father/grandfather of my grandfather Antonio.

The only other thing I could add is that the father of my grandfather, this Giulio was probably 25-35 when he married, because his wife Rosaria Foti had previously been married, so that would make this Giulio birth range 1870-1880
Thanks anyway

"ENRIQUEZ, Antonio, Strada Molini 2D, Valletta"

No Giulio on earlier voter records

Have you tried French records for Malta as if Giulio Enriques Snr died before 1800 it was before French occupation ended.

Just a thought - there are 26 results for Enriquez in Malta on www.geneanet.org - but they also list
Enriquez de Alamansa
Enriquez de Borja
Enriquez de Borja Y Almansa
Enriquez de Valesco
Enriquez de Luna
do you think it possible that when they went to Egypt they had one of these names and dropped the second surname ??

Thanks Garstonite,
The first 5 I have seen on the Maltese marriages database of Geneanum.com
They may be but I can't any info on who their children were.
The other suggestion you make, possible but unlikely, these are very Spanish names, the certification of my father and Grandfather (even though born in Egypt) is listed as "melitensis" so the great-grandfather most likely born in Malta, although it may be possible that he also was born in Egypt, and it goes back one generation further.
The Geneanum site has the "patriarch" Giulio Enriquez marrying in 1773, and then having a number of children (some of these listed on the link you provided). Then there is a gap of 1-2 generations before others appear, some applying for passports to Alexandria, some to Tunisia. Then there is another gap of 1-2 generations before other Enriquez passport applications to Alexandria Egypt.
The gaps are frustrating, I'm sure they must connect in some way to each other, and eventually connect to my great-grandfather but I haven't joined the dots yet. The other thing is Egypt records are not very good before 1952, especially for Europeans, the British subjects' records are better, that's how I've found records of my father, his brother and sister, but mostly you need to know the exact names and dates and the church where the event occurred. Even with that I don't know if the church still has those records, these churches have no website archives, only Facebook and telephone numbers

Thanks Whiteout.
This Antonio is the one referred to above b1902.
The second part of your post - no Giulio snr (i.e. great grandfather) died in Alexandria Egypt sometime between 1935-1940
