on the 1851 cens.Dudley

Hi Jacqueline,

Might it actually be n/k - meaning not known.  I have seen this on a census entry: they seemed to know which county they had been born in but not the town/parish.  Only a suggestion.

As a guess, perhaps it is 'Not Given'  ie the county has been provided, but not the town of birth.
