Dear all,
I am trying to locate my mother's dad. He was stationed in Germany after WW2 and was with the Royal Airfoce. He is Irish and his name is Patrick Joseph Byrne. I already contacted the embassy in Germany but they were no big help. Do you have any ideas where I can extend my searches to? There are quite many men by that name in Ireland
Any idea would be highly appreciated. Thank you!

Do you have a birth certificate for your mother? If so it should have both her parents names on it which could help in finding a marriage certificate for your grandfather.
Was your mother born in Ireland or elsewhere?

On the forces war record site, they have a Patrick Joseph Byrne listed, service no 1908993, aircraftman 2nd class in the R.A.F. Volunteer Reserves.
Could this be him?
Do not have any credits for that site at the moment so couldn't see any more.

Welcome to Rootschat, Trisha
Were your mother's parents married at the time she was born? if not father's name might not appear on mother's birth certificate and this might be why the 'embassy in Germany' were not able to help you with more information.
You haven't said how long after WWII your mother was born but it's possible he could still be alive and we aren't allowed to post details of living, or possibly living, people here on Rootschat.
