Do you have a date range in mind?

And where have you looked already?

Looking at the 1911 Ireland census, there are 181 Downey's in County Kilkenny, and 205 in 1901.

This branch of the Downey family were known as the Downey "Toms". Thus James Downeys name in Conahy was "Jim Tom", the same applied to his siblings and children. James' father's name was Thomas Downey.

Hi Sandra,

I’m trying to find info on my ancestor Patrick Downey.  From Ballyragget.  He trained as a tailor in Waterford and immigrated to Newfoundland Canada.  I descend from him and there’s a ton of us here in Canada.  Patrick was born 1784 in Ballyragget, Kilkenny.  He was Catholic (staunchly) and we have reason to believe his father is James as that is what Patrick’s first son is named.
