Robertson/Robinson
« on: Saturday 08 July 17 06:01 BST (UK) »
I have a problem trying to connect three men.
James Robertson/Robinson born abt. 1807 in Southgate, Middlesex.  My gg grandfather.
William Robertson/Robinson born 1809 in Southgate, Middlesex
Thomas Robinson born 1820 in Southgate, Middlesex.
Father a William for all and a Mary for William and Thomas.
Marriage cert. for James Robinson. Marries Kezia Beaton 1.3.1842 at St. Marys Islington.
Father William a Labourer.
Marriage Cert. for William and Sarah Susannah Wadkins 28.4.1840 in Shoreditch.
Father William deceased Farmer.
Marriage cert. for Thomas and Sarah Mayes 18.10.1846 at St. Marys, Islington.
Father William Gardener.

So Father William Robinson is alive in 1842 and 1846 but not it seems in 1840.  So surely William Robinson b. 1809 is not related to James 1807 and Thomas, 1820.

The Weld Chapel, Southgate feature in the lives of all men.

1841 census  James and Thomas are Butchers and appear on the same Census.
1841 census for William.  He appears as a Beer Sellar living also in Southgate but on his marriage cert in 1840 he is a Butcher.

Its a puzzle that weeks of research are not solving.  I should be so happy if someone kind can help.

Thank you for reading the above.

Thew absence of the word "deceased" does not imply that William was alive at the time of these marriages? ;D

It rather depends on the way the questions were asked by the vicar!

Regarding the occupation anomaly of Butcher/Beer seller. I have often seen alcohol related 'occupations' alongside others such as Farmer and beer seller - it is not uncommon.
